Classes

We offer group classes with limited enrolment to allow greater personal attention by our instructors and assistants in a fun and supportive environment. Each set of classes is 8 weeks long, one night a week and one hour a night, with homework sheets provided by email to help guide your training between classes. We have Tuesdays and Thursdays available to us, so each set of classes will be held on one of those nights. Our schedule will have to be based on demand.  We hold Fall classes beginning in October, Winter classes starting in January, and Spring classes beginning in April.  Students will receive instruction on how to perform each exercise, each exercise will be demonstrated, and then handlers will have the opportunity to practice the exercise under the watchful eyes of the instructors and assistants.

We offer three levels of obedience training:

Level 1

Beginner

This level is beneficial for all dogs from 4 months old and up. Students will learn several foundational skills through a variety of fun exercises, including attention, sit, sit stay, down, down stay, loose leash walking, leave it, handling, and will begin hand signals. This level is designed to develop a well-behaved dog that anyone would be happy to welcome into their home.

Level 2

Intermediate

In this level, the students and dogs will continue to build on the foundation exercises by having good, clear expectations and direction. They will be heeling on and off-leash with distractions, and will learn some new, more challenging skills including fronts, finish to the left, and stand for exam. In addition, training will focus on building reliable sit and down stays at greater distances from the handler and with distractions, reinforcing recalls with distractions, as well as quicker responses to voice commands and hand signals.

Level 3

Advanced

This level continues to build on skills learned in level 2. The students will have developed good, solid bonds and reliable performance with their dogs, so they can now work on skill precision. Besides establishing even more effective teamwork, this level is designed for those interested in participating in trials. Students will work on all the exercises required to be successful in a Novice Obedience Trial. Students will learn what a Trial judge is looking for and what instructions they may receive from a judge during a trial.

Rally Obedience

This is also known as Rally-O. Rally is a combination of obedience exercises performed through a preset course in a flowing sequence of 10-18 stations, signifying various obedience skills. Rally is about accuracy, control, and teamwork with an emphasis on an upbeat relationship between the handler and their dog. This is a terrific sport to improve a dog’s confidence and strengthen the working relationship between the dog and handler.

Rally sets are 6 weeks long, one night a week, and one hour a night. The prerequisite is successful completion of at least level 2 obedience.
